Rochester’s Four Corners, Poster

$20.00$30.00

The intersection at State and Main Streets in downtown Rochester, known as the Four Corners, was once the very heart of the city—more so than it is today. This beautiful image, probably taken in the early 1910’s, captures the energy of this bustling square during a time when Rochester was on the rise. Trolleys and horse-drawn carriages fight for their positions on the snow-covered streets. While pedestrians, bundled in winter attire go about their daily routine. The Four Corners once had some of the most beautiful examples of Victorian, Gothic, Romanesque, and Neoclassical architecture standing at each corner. From left to right are the Rochester Trust & Safe Deposit Co., the Powers Building, the Elwood Building, and the Wilder Building. The Rochester Trust & Safe Deposit Co. and the Elwood Building were demolished in the 1960’s, but they live forever within the four corners of this wonderful postcard.
