We regularly host community conversations in our mobility hub to engage neighbors, mobility-curious, long standing advocates, and experts alike. Here we dig deeper into the challenges and opportunities of creating safer streets and embracing multimodal living.
UPCOMING CONVERSATION
E-Bikelash (May 21st 6PM-7:30PM)
E-bikes are transformative for older riders and people with limited mobility, opening new possibilities for getting around by bike. They make it easier to carry passengers, haul groceries and other essentials, and travel longer distances with confidence. Yet confusion between pedal-assist e-bikes and much faster e-motos, along with reckless behavior from a minority of riders, has fueled calls for restrictive legislation and even bans on this innovative technology.
- The quirky e-bike laws of NYS from 2020
- Bills in the Legislature that would “fix” those problems
- The backlash we’re experiencing locally and nationally
- Some dangerous bills in the state legislature that could restrict their use
- Hear from the bike community about how to move forward
We hosted Carter Lavin, author of If You Want to Win, You’ve Got to Fight: A Guide to Effective Transportation Advocacy, for our February Community Conversation. He gave some great advice on how advocates can stop playing defense and build a joyful, visible, people-powered movement to celebrate highly visible “wins” for the community.
You can watch the entire talk on our YouTube channel. We also highly recommend you check out his book.

After a rescreening of our 2017 Rochester Street Films: Winter Edition we broke into two groups. One to discuss advocacy around winter maintenance and the other to discuss the basics of Winter cycling.
