What We Do

We run a number of programs on an ongoing basis aimed at making our roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists and more comfortable for RTS riders. A large part of our work is legislative advocacy to push our officials to adopt safer streets and frequent transit. Want to learn more or get more involved? Send us a message or come to an engagement breakfast to meet the team!

Transportation Impact Collective

The Transportation Impact Collective was created to address transportation as a systemic equity issue—one that affects both mobility justice and climate justice in our region. Bringing together community leaders and key partners, the Collective unites local efforts to identify and implement systemic solutions that reduce transportation barriers for families and lower carbon emissions in Monroe County.

Meeting monthly, the Collective works to tackle challenges such as job sprawl, car-dependent land use, limited transit and active-transportation infrastructure, and inadequate access to EV technology in low-income areas. With Reconnect Rochester serving as the backbone, members advance shared goals from the Genesee-FLX Climate Action Strategy, RMAPI’s transportation recommendations, and new solutions developed collaboratively to move our community forward.

Transportation and Poverty

111,000 Monroe County residents live below the poverty line. 68,000 people in the city of Rochester (including over 50% of children) live in poverty. Reconnect Rochester commissioned a report to explore the connection between poverty and transportation and possible solutions.
