Reconnecters, we’re at a critical point in the development of the first ever Countywide Active Transportation Plan. We need a strong Plan that will make a serious shift from the car-centric mindset and policies of the past, to a multi-modal future that accommodates and protects ALL users of the road.

If you care about creating more walkable, bikeable communities in Monroe County – and we know you do – we hope you’ll help us come out strong to remind our County Legislators and Administration that there are great numbers of their constituents who are demanding safer streets that are designed for people, not just cars.

NEED TALKING POINTS? HERE’S WHAT WE’RE ASKING FOR.

  • Adopt a “complete streets” design policy for County roads. Implement road diets and other designs that reallocate space to accommodate ALL users of the road. Codify this policy through the MC Legislature, and hold MC DOT accountable for full implementation, transparent reporting and a financial threshold for exclusions.
  • Make Monroe County walkable. Let sidewalk installation become routine. Add leading pedestrian interval signals and striping at every crossing.
  • Improve bikeability in Monroe County. Expand on-road infrastructure to create safe conditions for biking. Maintain our network of trails with dedicated funding.
  • Create a fully connected network of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Improve connectivity across municipal boundaries, between neighborhoods, commercial centers, and transit hubs.
