The City of Rochester is hosting a public meeting to present the final design of the Bull’s Head Revitalization Street Improvements. This is the third of four public meetings centered on new street connections, intersection reconfigurations, and new landscaping. This project is a once in a generation opportunity to rebuild the intersections of Genesee Street & West Main Street and West Main Street & Chili Ave to protect pedestrians, transit riders, and cyclists.
Advocacy Opportunities:
-
Encourage 10’ lane widths to minimize the crossing distance for pedestrians and provide natural traffic calming to slow vehicles.
-
Advocate for high quality bus accommodations throughout the project area.
-
Encourage pedestrian islands at intersections to shorten the pedestrian crossing distance.
-
Advocate for the construction of a protected intersection, which will ensure that pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and abilities can confidently cross the street.
-
Reduce the turning radii to slow turning drivers to protect pedestrians.
-
Implementing leading pedestrian interval, no turn on red, and bike detection signaling.
Other information including designs presented at previous public meetings can be found at the City’s project website here.
