Rochester's race for Mayor is on!

While Rochester searches for its next mayor to take office and begin the arduous task of planning the City’s future, Reconnect Rochester is taking the issues to the candidates and the candidates to the people.

A New Future For Transit In Rochester: Reconnect Rochester's Mayoral Policy StatementLast month Reconnect Rochester wrote a mayoral policy statement, A New Future For Transit In Rochester and delivered it to all prospective mayoral candidates. We are asking the candidates (and the public) to offer comments and support for these good-sense policies… policies that if implemented, would put our town on the “map” of progressive forward-thinking cities that are taking their sustainable futures into their own hands.

If that weren’t enough (and it isn’t) we’ve teamed up with several other organizations to bring all the candidates together for one incredible night (March 1) to speak publicly on issues related to land use, neighborhood urban planning, transportation, development and revitalization. This discussion will be moderated by the totally awesome Rachel Barnhart of WHAM 13 News. Candidates will respond to submitted questions, and from those in attendance (YOU).

This incredible event is made possible by the Rochester Regional Community Design Center, Rochester chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Landmark Society of Western New York, the upstate chapters of the American Planning Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects, and Reconnect Rochester.

We believe the next Mayor has the opportunity to champion a dramatic shift in the way we plan and build our city. Executive Director Joni Monroe agrees, “Mayoral leadership will be key to our success, to guide us in making decisions now that will influence our future for the next 50 years and beyond in terms of development, the economy, the environment and the quality of life in our region.”

So please voice your support for A New Future For Transit In Rochester… and then join us and the candidates for what is sure to be a mind-opening event on March 1.
